5/26/09 - Giving Back to the Community... Now that summer has arrived, our focus in the office has shifted. Although we still spend a great deal of time on recruiting, I try to make it a priority to give back to the community. Just last week I participated in a charity event in Greenville. For the past four years I have been working closely with Philadelphia 76er legend Sonny Hill and his Healthy Hoops Foundation, which is an organization that helps educate and raise awareness for asthma. The Healthy Hoops Upstate Challenge took place at the YMCA in Greenville and allowed approximately 100 kids and their parents to learn about ways to control asthma through nutrition and monitored exercise. We were also able to work with several future Tigers on the basketball court. I, along with former player Sonny Hill, Philly coaching legend Speedy Morris and Southern Wesleyan women’s basketball head coach LaCheryl Smith led campers through drill work and a three-on-three tournament. As for our Tigers, several of the players are coming back to Clemson this week to begin their first semester of summer classes. They will be using this time to focus on academics as well as improving their strength and conditioning. Go Tigers!
